Footer Legals – copyright on the left and custom menu on the right

I want to have a custom copyright statement in the bottom left footer and then a custom menu on the right side. By using standard P tags with left and right alignment, the right side gets forced to a new line. Do I need to write custom DIV tags for each side or what would you recommend. I am not speaking of the widgetized footer area but similar to my company website at the bottom. http://www.northstarmultimedia.com
