I’m having problems with the AddThis social buttons, they are not appearing on my site

I have an AddThis account and added the code for the Sharing Sidebar in the “Social Sharing Code” section of the General Options of the Theme Options
I have also installed and activated the AddThis Smart Layers plugin (although I cannot seem to find any screen with configurations)

Am I still missing something?

Could you please provide a link to your page so we can have a look? Also maybe an admin username and password would be nice to check the back-end configuration in theme options.

Sorry for the troubles but we’re different people solving topics here, so the last one with the credentials was handled by my colleague.

Anyway, to make the sharing tool work correctly you need to do a few steps:

1. Ensure it is displayed in Post’s detail page:

2. Ensure the AddiThis tool is active in your AdThis dashboard

3. Seems like you have missed one step

So in your case please combine both steps and add them one after another into the same field:

P.S. The SmartLayers settings are available under “Settings -> AddThis Smart Layers” ;)

Thank you for your extensive explanation! I tried following your route, but it appears that I either should use the AddThis Smart Layers plugin and put nothing in the Social Sharing Code section. Or I should deactivate the plugin and paste the AddThis code in the Social Sharing Code, otherwise my sidebars were suddenly moved towards the bottom of the page (well, probably it was something else I was still doing wrong :) )

I got things working with the AddThis plugin to get the social icons on the right side of the page, but I also wanted to try and add the original AddThis buttons right below a blog post. So I added a RAW HTML section to the bottom of a post and adding the Step 2 code. Thus the Social Sharing Code section is now empty, but it seems to be working fine now :)

Cannot really say why the manual sharing and SmartLayers have conflicts but since you managed to get to the desired result the way is not important! ;) Thanks for sharing your findings. Hope they will help other users as well!
