If you look at the first page of this site I’m working on https://67.227.201.150/~stacyharshmancol/ You’ll see that the top text area has a dark grey background color. I’m wondering if I can make that whole area (everything that’s dark grey) completely transparent so you can see the black and white background image underlying the whole page.

Please note this is a custom text block and I’ve hidden the title tagline area that is usually there.

you have set background image only for row with portfolio element. And that is the reason why you see dark grey color under text inside other row and also under header.

You need set background image for page ( “Theme Options -> Pattern Options -> Background Pattern” ) and set page as boxed ( “Theme Options -> General Options -> Boxed / Unboxed Layout” ).
