This was my first experience with wordpress and this theme was what I wanted for my purposes and lead me to jump into using wordpress without any prior knowledge.

So far, it’s going great!

ME and my team mate are illustrators and I’m setting up the website to show our portfolio online and manage the online store where I will have our art for purchase.

So I’m in need of some advice on how setting up the portfolio, maybe a little hint will help, but it’s nothing techie related.

We are two illustrators and I want to have my portfolio and hers.

Inside those two portfolios we shall have different sections being them illustrations, paintings, etc..

We also have some shared work, so whats the best option to link them to each other portfolios.

I’m sorry, but I didn’t get to understand whats the best option to organize the portfolio according to this idea.

I’m very happy with the theme, and can’t wait for my the website to be up and running.

After completing the task I will rate you five stars for sure!

Thanks in advance!

We’re very happy to hear Boldial was one of the reasons to try out WordPress. It’s an amazing CMS (we even think it’s the best on the market) so knowing the work with Boldial went very smooth even for first-timers is a pleasure for us.

Regarding the portfolio I guess the best way to do it would be the following. Create two main portfolio categories – one for your work and one for hers. These will be used to differ which portfolio is whose.

In each portfolio, create “nested” sub-categories. Actually create a new category and set its parent to be one of the two main categories.

When you then use the “Portfolio” element in page builder on any page in WordPress, make sure to set the category so that only items from this category will be shown.

For the items that should appear in both yours and hers portfolio, make sure they have sub-categories attached to them from both main categories.

Hope I managed to explain it clearly enough. If not, please let us know. We’d love to see the final result once done.

Already looking forward to your rating ;)

Cheers

I think I get where the confusion comes from. Unlike the page where you add the portfolio element the “category overview” page is not an existing page. It is a virtual list of all items that are in this category also known as archive in WordPress.

The way how the items are displayed in this “virtual” pages is by changing the settings in “Theme Options -> Portfolio Options” if you however want to make other changes that can’t be done via the theme options you will have to update the PHP “template” that WordPress uses to display them.

This can be done using a child theme (we have provided a starter one along with the main theme) and there you can make changes to the PHP template for the Archive.

You can copy the “\taxonomy-portfolio-category.php” file from the root of the parent theme to the root of the child theme and then do the modifications inside.

Check this image that may help you control exact templates:

Regarding the way of importing all the photos unfortunately there is no easy way.. The portfolio is meant for “projects” so each project has a detail page where its details and more info is shown. So you have to do it manually.

Will this “illustrations” page be a “wordpress page” of “portfolio item”

This is where I don’t get if I have to put all the images I have for illustrations inside each portfolio item or one portfolio item to merge them all and have one for the featured image.

Don’t know If I got it clear, I am a bit confused.. this is the last thing Im missing to get it online up and running :)

You can create 120 portfolio items. 100 of them will have category “illustrations” attached to them and 20 will have “walls”

You can then create a page illustration a regular page and add a portfolio element in it and set its options to show items only from the “illustrations” category.

This is a workaround however and if you choose to show the breadcrumbs, the user will be able to navigate to the “virtual” list of items in the illustration category which is not the same as this page.

I guess it’s not that straight-forward but the best way to make it will be to tweak the template that is used to display portfolio categories.

Cheers
