Please edit the given page and edit the settings for the portfolio element that is placed in the content of the page inside the Page Builder.

Set all settings as you wish and then save the page. The Portfolio settings in Theme Options are meant for “virtual pages” such as category overview page, tag overview page, archives etc.. These pages are not connected to any page inside “Pages” section so you cannot control their content the way you can on the page where you add the portfolio shortcode.

I edited the portfolio element on my portfolio page but the filter is not showing. For “display filter” I chose “fade”. But there are only the projects without the categories showing above. How can I display those?

Could you please provide the link to the page so we can see it?
Does each portfolio item have a category attached to it?
Aren’t you displaying a portfolio of a given category only? In this case the filter will display only sub-categories of this category so if there are none, none will be displayed.

If you are still facing a problem to make it work, please create a new WordPress username for us. Set its e-mail to hello@ishyoboy.com. Make it as an administrator so we can access all Theme Options, and don’t forget to tick the box to send the password automatically.

We can then log-in and have a look.

no there doesn’t have to be subcategories. You can create just main 4 categories as you’ve written. It’s just that when you call any category in the shortcode and this category is empty it will not show any content.

thank you very much the admin access. We’ve checked it and the everything works as it should be. We made 2 examples of portfolio on your portfolio page:

1. Portfolio which doesn’t have set any specific categories to display (“Categories” field is empty). It means that shortcode shows all the portfolio items and in the filter it displays all the “root / main” (in your case 4) categories. Portfolio will display also all portfolio items which are in the sub-categories because they are part of the root category, e.g. “Web 1, Web 2” because they are children of “WEBSEITEN”. but the filter doesn’t display the sub-categories if you leave it empty.

2. In the second example we specify “Categories” field to just one – “WEBSEITEN”. There you can see that portfolio displays only 2 items because just that 2 items are in that category and the filter displays not the root category, because there is just one you specified (WEBSEITEN) but instead it displays sub-categories (Web 1, Web 2) of the parent “WEBSEITEN”.
