The user can then click to filter these categories, which is awesome, however, I am just now noticing that when it filters, it only displays the items from that category that are on the given portfolio page the user is on currently. Rather, it does not filter all items within a particular category and show everything, which is what I would love for it to do if possible.

For example, (in my portfolio: https://www.inthelittle.com/galleries/) I have 20+ images in the category “maternity”, however, when the user is on page 1 of the portofolio, it only filters the 3 “maternity” images that are on that page and displays only those. Then, when I click the page navigation below those items, instead of showing more maternity image, it takes them to page 2 of the portfolio as a whole (which displays all categories). This same thing is true for all categories with the portfolio, no matter what portfolio page # the user is on.

I hope that makes sense! :)

Anyway, I would LOVE it if would filter all items within a particular category and allow pagination for those items.

Is this possible? Thank you so much for all your help!

Cathy

The error it shows is as follows: https://www.inthelittle.com/wp-…/js/vendor/packery.pkgd.min.js:14

Got few points regarding the above mentioned problem. Here they are:

1. Child Theme

We have uploaded and activated a child theme in which we changed the size of the images within the 4 grid from theme-large (1170px in width) to theme-third which is 371px if I am not mistaken. This way much smaller images are loaded and the page load is mush quicker.

2. Old images did not have the new “theme-*” sizes.

Since the images were uploaded before the theme was activated, it did not have the necessary versions of the images. Therefore one page load with 150 items in the portfolio took about 58 MB which is unacceptable.

We installed the plugin:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/

And regenerated all 1096 images. Now each of them has the necessary versions and the page loads much quicker and it takes only 3.7MB (in comparison to the previous 58MB :D ).

Whenever you change a theme you need to regenerate the images as it might be using different, more optimised sizes.

3. Category Filtering Problem

Option A:
The easiest way to fix it right now, is to use the filter which links to the category page instead of the “Fade & reorganise” one. In this way you can have the latest 32 items on the “Galleries” page and when the user click on the filter they will be redirected to the Portfolio Category page. E.g.: https://www.inthelittle.com/portfolio-category/baby/

Option B:
Display each category portfolio on the homepage separately without filter.

4. Customisation to make it work exactly as desired
We can offer our paid customisation services to update the portfolio functionality to your needs. If you are interested, please drop us a line at hello@ishyoboy.com and we will come back with the price.

Option A – Quicker solution:
To remember the selected category of the filter and display only the items of this category on the next page

Option B – More complex (time-consuming) solution:
Make it work exactly as you wanted it, which would involve ajax requests to load dynamically items from other pages.

5. Filter freezing and errors
We will have a look why the “fade & re-organise” filter acts so slowly and cumbersome when it is used with 150 items and try to fix/optimise it, but cannot promise what the result will be as it needs to filter all items within the DOM Structure which is time-consuming.

Pfew. That was it. Please let us know what your thoughts are.

Cheers

Cathy are you there? Oveer.

;)

As promised, we had a look at the point 5. and managed to make it work much much better. We have prepared this fix and it will be part of the next theme update. We have uploaded it to your page so now even with “-1” set as the maximum amount of items it should work just fine.

Make sure to clear your browser’s cache memory before viewing it as it might use the old cumbersome version instead of the newest one. Hope this makes your site work much smoother.
