There is a template called home.php but I can’t seem to control what page is using this? I only have the option from the Administration > Settings > Reading.

The reason is that I want to do some more custom stuff with the front page.

Currently the theme uses no Page Templates. It only uses the standard WordPress hierarchy and all the content is created via shortcodes.

If you wish to create a new template please have a look at the following links:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Page_Templates
https://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Hierarchy

The Home.php is a reserved template by WordPress (as can be seen in the Template_Hierarchy link above). It is used in the case when the homepage is set to display posts not a regular page (under Administration > Settings > Reading.)

The Page_Templates link above should pretty much give you all the necessary information to create a custom template and assign it to any page. You can then use the code in “page.php” as the base for your modifications.

Hope this helps ;)
Cheers
