I’ve just set up this theme and followed the instructions completely. However, the import does not work, and manually importing dummy content following the steps still does not get it working in the proper way (e.g. the footer/widget setup is not in the documentation).

Trying to import using the auto-importer fails with:

Import Error!
An error occurred during the import process.

I have just installed WordPress 4.1 completely fresh, then installed the theme, the child theme, activated child theme, activated plugins, woocommerce, performed the image size settings, and then tried the import.

Could you help in getting this resolved? Are there any other similar reports of import failures?

This is very strange. It has not happened before. In most of the cases the automatic import works like charm. Only with certain server configurations it might fail.

Did the manual import work? WordPress cannot export widget settings so you will have to enter them manually. The Widgets are set from “Appearance -> Widgets” Just choose the right ones. If you need a specific one just let us know and we can assist you.

Were all other parts imported correctly?

Unfortunately none of the imports worked, and when setting them manually I wasn’t sure how to get the widgets in the footer looking correct like you have the in the demo, in terms of which ones to add and the customisations to get the icons, the twitter link, and the newsletter subscriptions added in. I think I know how to link the first two but unsure about the newsletter subscription one.

I have tried it on different servers with varying configurations, including a ‘standard’ Heart Internet shared server.

Would be great if you could advise further, or even if you could try a fresh build yourself, and zip up the files along with the database. I can then try to load it up and login to change any necessary settings. Perhaps it’s failing on a newer plugin?

We just tried it on a few different installs and all worked like charm. Please check this topic if you are not experiencing the same problem:

Maybe try gzipping the demo data. But this would still not import the widgets as the widget import is only a part of the “one click” import as it needs special code.

You could use this plugin:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/widget-settings-importexport/

and import the file:
wp-content/themes/no8/assets/framework/wp/includes/demo-widgets.json
