You need to change the post type of the original portfolio posts to “portfolio-post”.
Maybe use this plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/convert-post-types/ or manually edit the XML file you are importing.

P.S. The mentioned ‘portfolio-post’ uses ‘portfolio-category’ taxonomy. Please note that not all the settings of the original portfolio will work as each portfolio plugin uses different metaboxes and settings.
