First of all does it happen on the front-end as well? If so, could you check the default WordPress theme as the problem might be caused by incorrect update or a third-party plugin. If the problem occurs there, please deactivate all plugins and activate them one by to find the that causes the problem.

Also please make sure to clear your browser’s cache as the browser might have cached older version of the visual editor.

Could you provide The URL of the page where the error occurs and also the full error data so we can see the paths to the problematic files?

The 4.0.1 is just a security update that fixes bugs or security vulnerabilities and it does not bring any new changes. So it should never cause any trouble. This is also why WordPress created automatic updates for such versions.
