The easiest and safest way is to make it via child theme. We have provided a simple starter along with the theme files. Please upload it and activate it (you might have to set the “Appearance -> Menus” again for the child theme).

Now that it’s activated we need to override the default google fonts inclusion function.
Please open the original (parent theme) “wp-content\themes\nalleto\functions.php” and locate the “ishyoboy_google_fonts_setup” function on line 1344.

Please copy the whole function declaration (lines 1344-1374) and paste it in the bottom of your child-theme “functions.php” file. So in “wp-content\themes\nalleto-child\functions.php”

Now that it’s there we need to teach it to include the latin+ext files as well. The last action that this function does is to call the font inclusion by calling:

wp_enqueue_style( 'nalleto-google-font-' ... );

We need to simply append a specification of a subset and we can do so by adding

'&subset=latin,latin-ext' to the end of this line.

So to sum up. You should replace the original line which looks like:

wp_enqueue_style( 'nalleto-google-font-' . $i, "$protocol://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=" . rawurlencode( $font ) . ':' . rawurlencode( $variants ) );

With the new one:

wp_enqueue_style( 'nalleto-google-font-' . $i, "$protocol://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=" . rawurlencode( $font ) . ':' . rawurlencode( $variants ) . '&subset=latin,latin-ext' );

That’s it :) Your theme should now be able to load the Latin Extended characters as well along with the default latin only ones.

Please let us know if you succeeded. If you faced any issues. Please provide a url where we could have a look at what’s happening :)

Have a great sunny Sunday.
Cheers.

Do I have an up-to-date version, as in line 1344 I have:

I copied to child piece of code between lines 1179 and 1232 (hope it is not too much).

Sorry, you are right.. Not sure what testing version I’ve been looking at. The lines are (1180 – 1210). So a little less than you explained (there is no need to go to 1232 if you are not changing anything in there). Plus there is no need to wrap it with “function_exists” as it is in the parent theme.

Cheers
