I wanted to add a pattern to the header and found out that there is a missing option in the theme options panel.

Its in the patterns menu below the header pattern:
IMPORTANT:
The Header background color opacity must not be set to “100”. See setting.

Another question on that topic, is there an option to add a semitransparent pattern to the row backgrounds? This is very useful to add sharpness to it etc..

Options is there, but looks like the link is broken. We will have a look at it.
To have your semitransparent pattern/color, you have to do two things:

First – In pattern options, select pattern you wish to have in header.
Second – Go to color options and scroll down to Header colors. There is slider with which you can adjust the color opacity/overlay.
