I am working with 4 categories (within each sit 4/5 sub categories). I would like to show a single portfolio across all categories. This works fine by using the “category=” code and separating each parent category by a comma.

The question I have is about layout, as I end up with some 20 filters at the top of my portfolio: is it possible to group them by main category by any chance?

Have you tried creating one portfolio category e.g. “Portfolio 1″ and adding all 4 categories as sub-categories? I guess this is what you are trying to achieve. Just use the category=”portfolio-1” then. The filters should then be only the first 4 if I’m not mistaken.

Apologies as I think I didn’t explain this very well ;)

I have 4 categories (A, B, C, D) each of which with 4/5 sub categories. All for the same portfolio.

I would like to use all 20 subcategories as filters on my page, however ideally I would like them to be grouped according to their parent category – i.e. 4 distinct sets of subcategories, clicking any affects the same portfolio output.

Does that make sense?

I see. Now I get it.

In this case you’ll have to write some custom code and update the portfolio shortcode. It is located in “wp-content\themes\minicorp\assets\framework\wp\shortcodes\shortcodes.php”. Just have a look at the code around line 1493 – 1581.

Yo will have to decide how to divide the categories and maybe write the CSS for their look as well. We can provide just such guidelines as this is a more advanced/time-consuming customization and is not part of the regular support for theme.
