but i’m having this problem with a minicorp installation and a boldial one.

when i change some theme options, and click save
CONNECTIONS BLOCKS.
i mean
i can’t more connect to my hosting (i have 2 servers with 2 logins and 2 ip addresses, i can’t connect both of them)
for 30 40 minutes…
i can’t connect via ftp, via plesk panel, nor visit the site…
strange thing is problem happens on all pcs/macs of our design studio, no one can’t connect to our hosting…

i don’t know what can be the problem (already opened various tickets with hosting, they say they don’t see problems with my server, same with my ISP, i asked to remove black lists, and see if there are problems.. no problems), so before asking help to you, i tried almost anything…

This is really, really strange. It is the first time anyone experiences such problem. It must be related either with the hosting or with the intranet security settings.

Here are our thoughts:

When Theme Options are saved the data is transferred via ajax in a serialized state. Maybe the server does not like the fact that there is quite a lot of information (all options are sent) and suspects the request to be a hack attempt. So this might be one of the causes that comes to our minds.

Secondly, on every Theme Options change a CSS file is generated to contain the latest color, fonts & responsiveness options. Maybe the server does not like that.

Some Questions that might lead to a solution:

1. Have you tried logging in and saving the settings from a different place than your office? Are you getting blocked as well?

2. Have you checked the PHP Error Log and the Access log?

3. Try using Chromes Developer Tools to see if what response the ajax request receives.

4. Please create an admin account and password for us to log in and try to re-save the options to test if we will be blocked as well. While creating it please tick the checkbox to automatically send the credentials to hello@ishyoboy.com

5. What http response do you get once you try to request the page after you’ve been blocked? 404, 403, no response at all?

We are 99% sure the problem will be a security setting or something similar, but mainly on the side of the hosting provider.

could be an antiflood, wich has a problem with ajax? strange, cause i already used minicorp a pair of months ago for another site (but same host) and i didn’t have problems..
now i have same problem with minicorp and new bought boldial :(

The server resets the connection:
boldial_error

However we can still navigate throughout the whole site. There is no 30-40 minute block. This is definitely a server issue as the server resets the connection on ajax POST request. Maybe the form data inside the POST request are too long.

Please try to communicate this with the guys from the hosting. Maybe they changed recently some configuration which started triggering this error.

That would really be a pity :( As mentioned this is the first time, we are facing such error and the base of the options framework is used on more than 1900 Installs.

Hope the information we provided will be enough for the server guys to track and solve the issue promptly.

What is your hosting provider by the way?

The error received on “Save All Changes” is “ERR_CONNECTION_RESET” please check the PHP Error Logs to see what they are saying.

If PHP is running on Suhosin’s protection, more configuration details can cause a server to reject a POST due to its size:

We just tried to install a WordPress FTP browser to edit the file containing Theme Options settings to delete some of them and make the POST request smaller to see if it goes through but the plugin returns error due to a Security Setting we guess:

Okay, just spent quite a time deleting the theme, modifying the options file, uploading and activating the theme. The problem is definitely caused by the size (or content) of the “data” parameter that is send via the ajax HTTP request on ThemeOptions save.

If there are just a few options everything works and the options are saved. Even the “Reset Options” works without a problem.

This is definitely something the guys should fix on server’s side. End of report :)

Unfortunately there is not much that can be done on theme side. The server needs to accept long HTTP Post data with serialized arrays. This will solve the problem for sure.

Did you manage to solve the problem? We re-worked how the ThemeOptions are saved in order to avoid the error above. We logged your server and applied the fix. All seem to be working now.
