First of all the “NextGEN Gallery” plugin is a third party plugin not developed by us, so in this case the authors of the plugin would be a more appropriate support group to contact.

But let us try to help ;) In general, how WordPress works is that all image, no matter whether uploaded directly to a page, post or any other content area end up in the Media Library anyway.

Simply adding the images to the media folder and uploading them via FTP will not help. They need to be added using the WordPress back-end as when an image is uploaded, it gets post-processed and registered by WordPress.

So what do to?
Simply open your WordPress administration and go to “Media” section where you can drag and drop everything you need at once. These images can later be used in you NextGen Gallery

An alternative would be to work with the NextGen Gallery plugin and when you create a new gallery, simply upload the images necessary for that gallery. It should also support drag and drop ;)
