if we install the new theme will all the layout and shortcakes remain in place with minimal disruption seeing as they are very similar

95% of the content should work like charm ;) There might be few tweaks needed here and there. You just need to go through your content and check if all working fine as expected.

P.S. We recommend testing it in a separate development installation instead of doing on the live installation to avoid downtime.
