Customize blog post details (date, categories, tags, comments) on overview page via child theme

To the left of blog posts, the following details are displayed:
– date
– category
– tags
– comments count
This takes too much space, vertically.

How can we control:
– which details are displayed
– whether to display blog post details (vertically as left sidebar, or horizontally before or after each post entry)
