More control of Grid

Hi,
Trying to use the media/post/page grid for a landing page but the designer would like to have control of what image goes where in the grid as well as make them all links to pages in the site.
Here is a mockup of the look the designer is trying to do, is there a way I can make this design work with your theme? If so, please tell me exactly how :)
