Blog layout on home page

I love the way the blog layout works on the “blog” tab of the demo “the blog page”.

How can I get a row on my home page to look the same?

With the featured image on the left and the copy on the right with the featured image used as the scrolling image in the BG.

Also is there a way to have a different image scroll in the BG instead of using the featured image? (Some posts I want the bg and the image on the right to be different)
