VC PostGrid shortcode not accepting category-terms to narrow source data

Dear wizards at Ishyoboy,
We had to reverse the recent update of the Boldial theme as an important feature (at least to us) appeared to be not working any longer: We use custom post types and use the red VC Post Grid to display them. We use the field [Narrow Source Data] to display only specific categories. This used to be an auto-fill, typing in a category-term auto-fills the term.
In the most recent update this field seems to be disabled. It does not accept data in the most recent upgrade of Boldial. That is, you can fill the field but the data is not saved. The auto-fill/lookup does not work. It is not working with custom post types and is not working with the regular post either.

I tried the functionality at different sites. It’s not something we screwed up we like to think, were ignorant of.
Any suggestions or fixes would be most welcome as we do like to upgrade.
